yes standard vs jones mountain twin

10 mars 2023

. Its still set back like its been for years now**. Many boards personalities change acording to the conditions but the Jones Mountain Twin does not and thats hard to do in this hybrid world of snowboards. Boots: Burton Imperial, Burton Hail, Burton SLX, Nike Lunarendor With the 158 its 23.5 and with the 154 its 22.5 and so on. The 2015 Jones Mountain Twin is very much like the 2014 except it has a lighter more lively core. Its like there is a long extension of the edge at the middle of the board and the rest is almost un-noticable. Out of the 38 men's all-mountain snowboards that I rated: The average score was 83.9/100. Maybe its the mellow magnetraction bump in the middle but it just doesnt snap edge to edge super quick. I bought it cause I loved the graphic on it too. There are more sizes though. Pipe: We have ridden a lot of pipe with the Jones Mountain Twin and like it. When it comes to carving its really good for a board that looks like its almost a continuous rocker board. Just dont get this if you have mini-disc bindings because then you cant use the slam back inserts. This design hasnt changed since 2013 and its the same great on snow feel. Skidded Turns: The rocker in the tip/tail makes the Yes Standard very easy to skid out if you get off your game. Get this if you want something more buttery, forgiving and more playful. I demoed the Burton Process, Capita Merc, and Jones Mountain twin this winter. 163: 10-11 Our Recommended Bindings: Union Atlas, Union Force, Union Contact, Union Contact Pro, Burton Cartel, Burton Genesis, Burton Mission, Salomon Hologram, Now Pilot, Arbor Cypress. Theyhad a centered stance and a very small camber between the feet that ended before the binding inserts. Expert Review: 2023 Jones Mountain Twin [with Video] - Curated Jones Frontier Vs. Mountain Twin - Snow Blazing The sixth insert in each set is set back further than the rest so if your reference stance matches the corresponding sizes reference stance you can still get some set back going on like an all mountain board. Reddit and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to provide you with a better experience. The Jones Mountain Twin has a medium flex between the bindings with a little softer flex in the nose. The Flex of the YES Standard is medium but on snow it feels much softer. The merc felt really hard to turn and was stiffer overall. Conditions: Pretty good sierra snow. Conditions: Really good spring conditions almost every day and only a few hard mornings. For the rider who rides in hard to soft and onlyoccasionalice you will be more than happy with the edge hold. The new shape has spoon tech in the nose tail but it seems to mellow out or straight up stop right about where the camber ends. 162W: 10.5-12 21 front -6 back, 15 front -15 back. So when set all the way back with an approximately 22.75 stance widthIm 3.5 back on board which is pretty far. It needs a pretty responsive binding and boot to start to respond and many of us have felt it a little slow in the trees. Capita's Death Grip and Yes' Mid-bite are essentially polar opposites of one another. Hel Yes, Jones Twin Sister, and Mind Expander all have great float but get a little more bogged down in the deeper snow, making them more fatiguing to ride on the best pow days. Ethics Statement:We dont get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews and this is our unfiltered opinion. When on reference the YES Standard rides like a true twin on sidecut. Riders: James, Peter, Jimbo, Mike It was one area where we felt Jones could improve the ride in the past. It feels softer than its rating on Yes site. Then with a set back of -20mm its kind of a stretch for Jones to call this a twin. On Snow Feel: The extra camber adds some stability but it still doesnt feel catchy. 151: 8-9 The YES Basic Globe is a better call if the 155 or 158 fit you. It doesnt pop very well but it has a very rubbery feel that can handle all types of terrain without getting cranky underfoot as long as it is at slower speeds. Hitting kickers is very predictable and stable. Flex/Buttering: The Yes Standard has a flex that is softer than what YES says so its easier on snow than you would think to butter. Pipe: The Yes Standard is a great Pipe board and I cant wait to get more time in this pipe when we get this board for the season. I can only recomand this board .. Just took my 2015 Mountain Twin out for a breaking in yesterday. Never the less here is our take on how the 15s lighter core played on snow compared to the 2014 and 2013 models. Especially in the tip/tail. So overall, the YES Standard, doesnt have the camber/pop/turning experience that I prefer but it has near excellent grip, butters super easy, floats in powder really well and gives a really forgiving ride. Riders:James, Jimbo, Peter, Mary, Kristi, This is no freeride board built for speed but its very good for its shape and riding style. Close to Reference and Set all the way back. The 153 works best with my size 9 boots and the 156 works best with my 185 lbs and less importantly, my 510 frame. The Jones Mountain twin is stable enough for jumps while still being flexible enough to butter and press. **For 2020 & 2021 the YES Ghost now has Slamback Inserts as well so it isnt as far behind as the standard in powder this year. It would be fine if they had 62 centered inserts per binding but at 52 it minimizes the max stance width too much. Speed:There is a bit of improvement when it comes to speed and the nose/tail doesnt chatter as much as it use to from 2013 and even 2014. And the basic/typo would be more playful and looser than the mountain twin? I did see a rossignol jibsaw for the same price, what do yall think about that board? It powers through a hard turn well enough but doesnt have that ultra satisfying mostly camber carve either. I absolutely loved it as a first board. If I can only take one board on a road trip this would be it. Flex: Feels pretty medium/stiff bordering on stiff. Here are some ideal US boot sizes for the YES Standard. Buttering: Such a great board for buttering. JavaScript is disabled. Jones All-Mountain Snowboards | REI Co-op Despite all the changes it still defines what we call a one board quiver/all mountain board. It just helps you initiate the turn a little faster and makes it easier in messy bumps or in the trees on a powder day. Resort: Copper Mountain. I havent ridden the Standard in powder but did with the Yes Optimistic 2015 and it had a really easy float. * Donate to https://www.patreon.com/thegoodride or https://venmo.com/TheGoodRide (@TheGoodRide) or https://paypal.me/thegoodride or Zelle* Follow Us: https://www.instagram.com/thegoodride* Like \u0026 SubscribeThanks For Watching! If you need advice please read the full review on the site first and use the comparison tool before contacting us here: https://thegoodride.com/snowboard-binding-and-boot-advice/ Reviews of Gear We Often Test With: Burton Kendo Boot Review: https://bit.ly/3Q4Mqt5 Union Atlas Binding Review https://bit.ly/3Q7xaLQ Burton AK 3L Gore-Tex Pro Tusk Jacket Review https://bit.ly/3SwJAyM Volcom Guide Jacket Review https://bit.ly/3SvMjs8 Burton AK 3L Gore-Tex Pro Hover Pant Review https://bit.ly/3BM05AV Smith Maze Helmet Review https://bit.ly/3byiR40 Smith 4D Mag Goggle Review https://bit.ly/3JDYS0E Burton AK Clutch Mitt Review https://bit.ly/3BYjjn8 Footprint Gamechangers Orthotics Review https://bit.ly/3QqkGPj Filmed With:Insta 360 One X2/New Vids One X3 https://www.insta360.com/sal/x3?insrc=INR1AEM GoPro Hero 10/New vids the Hero 11 https://bit.ly/3jJ2qm7 Turn Initiation: The Mid-Bite Tech grips but also provides a little faster turn initiation for how much surface area is on snow. The camber ends at about the the last binding insertsgiving the Jones Mountain Twin a whole new feel. From what I can tell it will be a bit stiffer and more suited to pow and faster speeds than the basic/typo. Its nowhere near as easy to jib or butter around as some of the other more freestyle focused hybrid camber boards like the YES Jackpot or even the old Jones Mtn Twin but it isnt bad for a board that focuses more on carving and mountain riding. There isnt a ton of camber underfoot but there is enough to give you some spring out of the turn. It is only a little bit behind Underbite and full Magnetraction from Lib-Tech/Gnu. However slow turn initiation for smaller boot riders, although not as bad as toe/heel drag, sucks a lot too. Speed: Its no bomber but its got enough to handle big, steep wide open groomers and then slow down and butter around when it gets flat. Its a forgiving board that applies to a wide variety of riding styles. Set Up: 22.75 Centered 15 front -15 back. yes standard vs jones mountain twin - pianosuccessonline.com The lowest score was 70.7/100. It can still lay it out in all conditions but if this is important to you look for another board. Update 2023: The Jones Mountain Twin hasnt changed since 2021 so this review still stands. The rubbery personality of the YES Standard is good for creating a nice protection layer for all that is happening underfoot when you ride. So you can generally go with a little bit bigger in boot size than you normally would. Pipe: Man this is a fun pipe board for less accomplished riders like me but also strong pipe riders as well. YES Standard Snowboard Review | Snowboarding Profiles There isnt much difference in terms of ride between the 2015 and 2016 Jones Mountain Twin in terms of ride so the 15 review stands pretty much the same. The Jones isnt a chunder buster but its pretty good passing through a tracked out snow line without getting messy or bucking you. It's been a slow start to the snow season, but we had 10 fresh inches of powder, so I put it through the test. Size: 157 Best Women's Snowboard for Beginners: Lib Tech Cortado C2. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. Short to wide radius turns are fun and have a nice spring out of them. On top of that there is early rise in the nose/tail and the mellow spoon tech helps this board roll easier into a turn in powder. Switch: Really good switch and just a little shy of a true twin. The turning is like butter, the speed isnt like the capita and about the same as the Process if not a little faster. Approximate Weight: Feels on the light side of normal. Flex/Pop/Buttering: Its got a pretty mediumish flex across the board but on snow, the tip/tail feel softer. That combined with the early rise rocker in the nose gives much better float than most mountain freestyle twins that have minimal set back on board that is often closer to 1 back from the center of the board. With a 20.7 stance width you can set it back 2.25 back from center of the board when using the slam back inserts. The Yes Standard is one of those boards that is aggressive harder charging ride but still doesnt quite have the consequence that camber does. So before the Jones Mountain Twin was bordering on the slow side of medium. The 2013 is also a slight improvement over the 2011 and 2012 models because of the added camber. The mountain twin is $120 more than the other two, is it worth the extra price? Powder: The -20mm setback is now identical to the now discontinued YES Big City so it will be a little short of borderline excellent and do a great job in powder. Powder: There is a very good directional float when you set it all the way back at a 22.75 stance width. Best Women's Powder-Leaning All-Mountain Snowboard: Jones Women's Flagship Snowboard. Jones Mountain Twin vs. Capita Mercury - Which Should You Ride? Its not as hard to butter as you would think but you do have to put a little more strength into it. The biggest change is the camber profile went from mostly camber (modern camber) to hybrid camber (camrock). yes standard vs jones mountain twin. Its got the stability of camber and the catch free feel of rocker. So if you are ok with the mid-level pop it has a very consistent personality in all conditions and it still remains one of the best one board quivers you can get your hands on these days. No real changes were made to the 2019 but I got it mainly to compare against the Yes Ghost. However it still is a very easy board to get to know riding the other direction. The mellow mag has no grab in powder or soft snow which this board excels in and it holds pretty well in hard conditions. Some love this ultra-stable feel but others, including most of the crew at The Good Ride, would like a little faster turn initiation. On Snow Feel/Ability Level/Skidded Turns: This hybrid camber profile called Camrock has a nice balance between rocker and camber that gives you stability underfoot in all conditions and is very forgiving for those that skid your turns often or just want a more forgiving ride when you get off your game. Days: 6+ Even I dont have issues on mellow features. We didnt try this in powder but based on our experience in powder with former models we just know the new nose, although shorter will float just fine. He is less park, more riding and smaller jumps. We ride all East Coast PA, a lot of icy groomers. Boots:Burton Ion,Burton SLX,Burton Imperial,Nike Kaiju,DC Judge,Nike Zoom Ites,Burton Ambush,Burton Ruler,Salomon Synapse Jibbing:This is probably the weakest part of the ride but its not that bad either. Jumps: Really solid pop and great for those who like to get big air. Sounds like mountain twin is the way to go. However if you compare this to something like theJones Flagshipits going to come up a short. The only issue here is the Slam back inserts require a full size disc binding. I think the thing that I like most was how stable it was at high speed on every surface, and how it boogied around trees. Its also not bad if you have to deal with icy off piste kind of snow that you might find on the way to a powder stash or on a slack country adventure. yes standard vs jones mountain twin . Its not for the kind of rider that wants a forgiving easy board to skid your turns. This is what makes this such a versatile one board quiver to us. That way there are more options for different types of discs on different types of bindings. Uneven Terrain: The board turns quickly through moguls and makes for better ride than you would think in uneven terrain. 10 Best Snowboards for All Mountain 2023: (With Top Specs) Super easy to skid a turn and it works for just about any ability level rider. Trying to decide on a good all mountain twin board. So all and all, the Jones Mountain Twin from years 2017-2020 is a fun ride that will fit a wide variety of riders. The board is made from SWS in Dubai instead of GST in Austria. Carving was fun on the old jones but the added camber of the 2013 and 2014 Jones makes it much more fun to carve and its one of its better qualities. The 2018 156 seems like its also slower than the 2017 156w by a little bit as well. On Snow Feel: Very aggressive and all about bombing the hill regular or switch. The Jones Twin is pretty loose and playful but when you want to step it up and make some more directional groomer riding it does a great job. Super easy to one foot and flat base. If you were to compare this to other all mountain boards with a similar flex and base it would be excellent. It doesnt quite feel like a true twin but it is super close to the point you might not notice. The base when waxed still has a great glide that holds its speed for a long ride. The performance upgrade and thrill you get from riding it will be more than worth thr cost difference. It carves groomers pretty darn well and handles deep Japanese pow effortlessly. It tracks super well when one footing off a chair or down a long flat cat track without the fear of catching an edge. It felt like a little bit of work to make quick edge to edge turns but you are working harder than you would with the older version. The mid-bite technology of the YES Standard provides close to excellent grip but also provides quicker turn initiation than you would think for this width over the bindings. Home > 2022 > June > 10 > Uncategorized > yes standard vs jones mountain twin. This is much better for intermediate riders or for those more advanced/expert riders that want a more forgiving ride. It didn't have as much pop as I am used to when hitting ollies and kickers. With a competitive price and up-to-date technology, this board is a strong top contender for every all-mountain/freestyle board out there. It also doesnt punish you in inconsistent end of the day snow like some stiff boards do. Most YES Camrock boards have more camber. Carving: Very fun to carve and this mostly camber board really makes for good lay it out springy carving turns. This is now a better extra camber version of the now discontinued Yes Big City and will appeal to a wide variety of riders looking for a one board solution. 149: 8-9 Again its all about compromising with a one quiver board and I think most prefer the extra float in powder. If you are new to hybrid camber it will take a bit of getting use to but after a few runs it will be really fun. May 23, 2021 . This review is my honest opinion of the snowboard, which I tested for 2 days in December of 2022. . It is a pretty stiff board both torsionally and tip to tail, giving it stability but also limiting feedback, feel, and fun. Speed: This board is very damp and stable at speed. However, I got bored with it after two subsequent trips out west. Well at least it did a great job for us. So if you want speed, go with the Frontier, and if you want to tear up a terrain park, get yourself a Mountain Twin. So, all in all, The YES Standard offers up a great all-mountain ride that gives you a little taste of what a Freeride board is like in powder when setting back and a strong all-mountain freestyle ride on non-powder days. Nothing exceptional but above average with a good wax job. On their official website, the 2023 board is currently listed at $549.99. Conditions:Pretty much everything from 2+ feet of powder to ice. Then throw in a nose with more surface area than the tail combined with a good big of early rise you get more float than you would think for a directional twin. Pipe: The improved edge hold will make this a great pipe board. Kind of almost there with the Yes Pick Your Line. For example, the 156 used to have a 23 reference stance and now 23.1 is a wide as you can get on the standard inserts. (We dont put in the exact weight because with wood cores there is no consistency in a boards weight), Here are some ideal US boot sizes for these Jones Mountain Twin sizes. I have this years 156 jones mountain twin wide and its amazing. What is cool though is it borders on being medium/fast in softer snow and in powder. It also depends on your boot size and where you ride the majority of the time. Uneven Terrain: With a little extra work it can weave in and out through bumps but its not a specialist here. That combined with the slam back inserts ( 1 x 2 set 1.5 back) makes it a great take on a modern all mountain board. So all in all my crew and I had a great time with this ride and I think every one of us would like to have this board in our quiver. Conditions: Sunny blue skies, super warm temperatures, some wind, slush, chop, chunder, ice, and hero snow on perfect corduroy. No obligation, but these links & ads support the site. Not a lot but a little. They added the middle bite which is a pair of indentations in the sidecut below the inserts. You know meBiestythe guy who writes all this shit. If you like to center it up and ride groomers/park switch this is a great call. The 2013 Base is one of the fastest bases we came across and if well waxed can glide through almost any extended flat area without issue. We do make money from the Where To Buy links, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders perspective. For example if you get the 156 and have a 23 wide stance then the set back inserts will work for you. Still we like going with medium to med/fast response bindings with this board. What does that mean? This isnt going to power over chunder and tracked up snow like some Jones boards but it has this really fatigue free all day ride that we really like. The more we ride this board the more it feels like the edge hold is good but closer to the excellent side of good. So it doesnt look as much like a twin as it rides on snow. Jones Storm Wolf Snowboard 2024. Approximate Weight: Felt normal and well constructed. You always compromise when choosing one board for everything but this is one of the best one board solutions we have come across. The 2021 Jones Mountain Twin has a longer effective edge and spoon tech in the nose tail making it for an easier turning poppier ride than past models. Final verdict. There is much more control between the feet, excellent edge hold and a good rocker shape after the bindings to make this a great pipe board. There is a lot more to this review here: https://thegoodride.com/snowboard-reviews/jones-mountain-twin-2011-2019-snowboard-review/https://thegoodride.com/sno. Approximate Weight: Felt normal bordering on light. Pipe: Its just the kind of pipe board a really accomplished rider will like but its not a forgiving easy ride for those that arent that strong. Its almost all camber now and will look like a camber board unless you look closely. (We dont put in the exact weight because with wood cores there is no consistency in a boards weight). The Jones Mountain Twin didnt out shine any of the other mostly rocker hybrid camber boards we tried but seemed to tie with them in terms of performance. Shop for Jones All-Mountain Snowboards at REI - FREE SHIPPING With $50 minimum purchase. Flex: The flex has come a long way since the old GST days and the new SWS model is softer and it doesnt feel like a 4.5 out of 5. Uneven Terrain: Its medium flex and somewhat forgiving nature so it can handle bumpy end of the day snow rather well. The Jones Mountain Twin can skid turns too. The Jones Frontier is a highly capable board that feels incredibly stable mid-turn and offers an average degree of edge hold. I ended up buying a used Jones MT too just cause it was definitely the board I would have bought if I had rode it first. You can of course go bigger or smaller but these work best for not turning the board slower than it should be and not having the dreaded Toe & Heel Drag. Set-Up: 21, 21.5 Wide. Turning/Carving: These days its not quite as exciting as it used to be but thats mainly because many boards in the industry have added boards with a little more camber and a little less rocker but its still fun.
