The older CHADS2 Score was designed to identify high risk patients for warfarin, but many common (and important) stroke risk factors in AF are not included. To classify the predictive ability of a scoring system, a C statistic is sometimes used. The CHA 2 DS 2 -VASc score contains more risk factors and has a greater range of points, thus switching to the CHA 2 DS 2 -VASc score will increase the number of patients eligible for anticoagulation.
